How To Transfer An Image to a Wall to
Create Your Own Baby Room Murals :
Baby Room Murals are a delightful way
to personalize your baby nursery decoration. A lot of people are
frightened away from painting their own baby room mural as they think
its too difficult or requires expert painting skills. The good news
is that most artists don't create a masterpiece by painting freehand
and making it up as they go. They ore-plan their design on a small
scale, then enlarge it and transfer it to the surface on which they
will paint.
Using this technique almost anyone can
paint a nursery mural that will delight their baby and impress their
friends. There are two main ways that you can transfer an image to a
wall when painting your nursery mural and I will detail both of them
here.
Baby Room Ideas that are suited to
Murals Here are some ideas for nursery themes that are well suited to
murals. Of course you can paint a baby room mural of anything you can
dream of, this is just to start the inspiration flowing :

Remember you don't have to attempt a
whole mural on your first go. Small pictures placed around the room
can be just as effective part of your baby nursery decoration.
The Projection Method :
The first method is to project the
image onto the wall. This is by far the easiest method but it does require enough room for a projector to
cast your image at a large enough scale to cover your wall.
So if you have a very small or narrow baby nursery this method may not work for you (in this case, skip ahead to the Grid Method).

Find an image which you would like to
use for your baby room mural and make a black and white copy, of it.
Make sure that it has good contrast otherwise it may be difficult to
transfer. If you find it easier to work with lines only you can trace
a picture and then use the outline as a guide to your mural.
Purchase some transparency sheets (most office supply stores should have them) and photocopy your design directly onto the transparency. If you don't have access to a photocopier then your local copy store should be able to do this for you.

For the next step you need a projector.
You may know someone that you can borrow one from but if not they are available for hire or
purchase. Much cheaper than the large projectors are purpose built
art projectors that are available from most art and craft stores or
purchase them online. They are compact, easily transportable and
cheap.
You may find more than one use for it during your baby nursery decoration project.

Set the projector up, place your
transparency on it and work with the settings until you are
comfortable with the size and focus at which it is projecting onto
the wall. Lightly trace the projected image onto the wall.
Grid Method :
This method works great in small
spaces. The other bonus is that its cheap and adequate. With so many
costs involved with having a baby its nice to save some money here
and there when you can.
No projection equipment required just a piece of paper, a pencil and a ruler. Find an image that you like that is related to your baby nursery theme. It can be one that you have drawn, something you print of the computer, a picture out a magazine, a photo you have taken - anything you like at all.

Make a copy of your picture and draw a
grid over the top making sure that all the boxes are evenly spaced. A good scale to use is 1ft on
the wall is equal to one inch on the page.
Using a pencil, draw lightly to reproduce the grid on your wall at a larger scale and use this grid as a guide when reproducing your picture. Verify that your lines are straight using a level.

A tip to note when drawing your grid;
the smaller the boxes the easier it will be to make an accurate copy on the wall as you will have more
lines to guide you. Beware of making your grid too tiny otherwise you will spend hours,
recreating the grid on your wall.
To make sure the transfer is accurate
it is best to focus only on one box at a time and draw everything in
that box so that it is complete before moving onto the next box. It
is much easier to be accurate over a smaller space and this is the
idea behind using a grid. Once completed you can step back and make
sure the picture as a whole is coherent and then fix up anything you
may have overlooked whilst you were focusing on the detail of your
baby room mural.
Painting Your Baby Room Mural:
Acrylic paints work best when painting
a baby room mural. Latex paints can be used for large areas of
background color. Make sure you wait until all the paint is
completely dry before you erase the pencil marks otherwise you will
smudge the paint and damage your mural.
Its as easy as that. Once you get the
hang of these techniques you will be painting baby room murals large and small and as your baby grows
and you update the room you will find yourself looking for the
perfect excuse to paint another mural!
I hope this has given you the courage
to consider a wall mural as part of your baby nursery decoration project.
